I have been fishing for over 20 years now and still have fond memories of when it all began watching that little float bob up and down as roach and perch were nibbling my poorly presented maggots probably on a hook far too large.
I always remember hooking my first carp. It was on said set up and no sooner had I hooked it had I frantically began reeling causing the hook to pull out straight away and somehow the float rod stayed intact! From then on, I was determined to catch one of these fish that showed me exactly who was the boss that day. An angler was born!
I mainly fish for carp and have done for the last 18 years but I do enjoy fishing for any species on a variety of tactics. I would say my favourite tactic for carp would be surface fishing. Seeing the carp emerge from the depths to encapsulate your free offerings until it travels closer and closer to your hook bait nestled amongst them. Once in front of your set up you hold your breath and time seems to stop for a moment, patiently and with the anticipation of a child at Christmas you wait for the sleek, slow-moving king of the lake to fall for your trap. If and when he finally slips up the exhilaration and excitement take over. Seeing it all from the start to finish just cannot be beaten in my opinion!
I fish a variety of waters mainly in Gloucestershire including Day Tickets, clubs and private syndicates but do regularly travel further afield to locations such as Oxford and Yateley for new ventures. I always enjoy a new challenge and visiting new waters.
I don't claim to be an expert or know everything there is when it comes to angling but I'm always happy to help. I'm just a normal guy, out there enjoying my fishing.
